Avengers #6 — First Baron Zemo & the Masters of Evil (1964, CGC 4.5)
Every super-team eventually gets its mirror image, and the Avengers got theirs in their sixth issue. Baron Zemo, the Nazi scientist whose hood had been glued to his face by his own Adhesive X in a wartime fight with Captain America, learns his old enemy is alive and builds a team to match Cap's: the Black Knight, the Radioactive Man and the Melter, each borrowed from the solo books of the Avengers themselves. They call themselves the Masters of Evil, and the name stuck for sixty years.
The plot is gloriously 1964. The Masters glue New York to the pavement, Paste-Pot Pete supplies the antidote, and Rick Jones's Teen Brigade switches the canisters so the villains unglue the city themselves. Kirby and Chic Stone's cover crams in the whole fight, with Zemo firing, the Black Knight swooping in on his winged horse, and the Avengers scattering, under a caption begging the reader: "Please don't frustrate us... you've GOT to read it!!"
This copy is graded CGC 4.5 (Very Good+) with off-white to white pages. The front cover is bright and shows well; a small "4/3" pencil arrival notation at the top left and some staining on the back cover are visible in the photos and reflected in the grade.
CGC certification #4788512015. Ships fully insured in a Gemini graded-comic mailer within one business day.
